I aimed to create a design that reflects my geographical origins, resulting in this architectural proposal. The concept of establishing a temporary house for artists in Recife, Brazil, was inspired by the site’s proximity to commercial and touristic areas of the city, including the main museums. My primary goal with Casa das Artes is to revitalize a degraded area by crafting a design rich in urban landscape, infusing the place with a new dynamic.
Employing the Brutalist Tropical style, the horizontal complex utilizes the preexisting ruins of a well-known 1920s bathhouse as a foundation. Positioned in a dike detached from the urban environment, the site emerges without predetermined boundaries.
The proposal is divided into two main sectors:
- Spaces to enhance the production of art
- Temporary houses
The geographic setting “isolates” the site from the city, ensuring a tranquil atmosphere and offering inspiring views. Nevertheless, it remains easily accessible via Arrecifes Avenue or by boats departing from the shore
